About Lamjung Yolmo

Yolmo is a Tibeto-Burman language, related to Tibetan, Sherpa and Kyirong and spoken in Nepal. There are several different varieties of Yolmo, spoken by people who live in different areas of Nepal. The variety on this website is Lamjung Yolmo, spoken in half a dozen villages in the Lamjung district of Nepal.

Like many of the world's smaller languages, Lamjung Yolmo is largely unwritten, and as speakers move towards speaking Nepali and English they are starting to use their own language less. This website is a way to share this language with the wider community, using existing materials. These materials have been collected as part of the documentation of Lamjung Yolmo.
